About Meridian Practice

Mission

Meridian Practice was started by Dr. Lauren Wadsworth, PhD ABPP with a goal of providing trustworthy evidence based therapy with no wait time. In the midst of a therapist shortage and significant need, especially in Western NY and the suburbs of Rochester and Buffalo, we strive to make it easy and fast for people to find a skilled therapist. Clients can start therapy within a week of contacting Meridian.

Our Style: Therapy is personalized for individuals to process and explore their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and to learn skills to meet their goals. All of our providers are trained in evidence based techniques (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, etc.) for treating anxiety, depression, and other challenges.

We offer telehealth and in person services in Rochester NY, Buffalo NY, as well as telehealth in New York, Maine, Massachusetts, and Georgia.

Services

Meridian offers Individual Therapy for children through adults, Family Therapy, Parent Coaching (for parents with kids who struggle with behavioral issues, anxiety/depression, etc.), and and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Please contact us with any questions.

We also have an Interpersonal Process Group with rolling admission.

Fees & Reimbursement

Fees: Our services are self pay. Meridian does not take insurance, and does not bill insurance directly.

We do accept HSA and FSA payments.

We will provide you with a “superbill” each month for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Sessions range from $175-300. Some clinicians also offer sliding scales for lower rates. If you need help paying for therapy, consider applying for financial assistance at www.otherpeoplefund.com

When asking your insurance company about reimbursement, we suggest asking the following questions:

  • Do you offer reimbursement/coverage for an out-of-network provider?

    • What is the rate reimbursed for an out of network PhD, or LMHC?

    • They may ask you for the provider’s name. Please see our “therapists” page for names of our therapists, along with their degree.

      • Some of our providers work in multiple locations, you’d be calling about their work at Meridian Psychology Practice, PLLC, the billing address is South Street, Geneseo NY 14454 (but please note most of our therapists see clients in Rochester and Buffalo offices)

  • Would I have a deductible?

  • How many visits would be covered per calendar year?

FAQs

How quickly can I start therapy?

We know that when you are ready to begin therapy, you should not have to wait weeks or months to get started. At Meridian, clients can typically begin therapy within one week of reaching out.

What can Meridian help with?

Our clinicians work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, behavioral concerns, and other emotional and mental health challenges. We also offer couples and family therapy, parent coaching, psychological testing and assessment, and specialized services.

What does “evidence-based therapy” mean?

Evidence-based therapy uses treatment approaches that are supported by scientific research and clinical expertise. Our providers are trained in approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Your therapist will personalize treatment based on your individual needs and goals.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many people and many mental health concerns, telehealth can be an effective and convenient way to receive therapy. Your therapist can help determine whether virtual or in-person care is most appropriate for your individual needs.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another. You will talk about what brought you to therapy, your history, what you would like to work on, and your goals for treatment. Together, you will begin developing a plan for moving forward.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

There is no set timeline that works for everyone, however most people start to see improvement in 6-8 weeks. The length and frequency of therapy depend on your goals, needs, progress, and the type of treatment recommended. Your therapist will discuss this with you and continue to evaluate your progress throughout treatment.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?

A previous experience with therapy does not necessarily mean therapy cannot work for you. The therapist, treatment approach, and fit can make a significant difference. We focus on matching clients with clinicians who have appropriate expertise and using evidence-based treatment tailored to the individual.
