Training: Dr. Joe Teeple completed his undergraduate studies at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA, majoring in psychology, sociology, and criminology with a minor in women's and gender studies. He then completed his master's and doctorate in clinical psychology at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. He completed his predoctoral internship at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center and postdoctoral fellowship at Roberts Wesleyan University's Westside Psychological Services clinic. He now serves as an assistant professor at Roberts Wesleyan and a clinical supervisor at Westside Psychological Services.
Clinical Expertise: Dr. Teeple specializes in treating adults with trauma, mood, and anxiety disorders and interpersonal problems. He is trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), humanistic-existential therapies, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He often uses an integrative approach with clients. He has worked with neurodivergent populations and adults across the lifespan, with an interest in geriatric and end-of-life care. Dr. Teeple has experience assessing a broad range of psychological problems, including mood, trauma, anxiety, attentional, autism spectrum, and personality disorders and dementia.
Approach: Dr. Teeple uses a client-centered, eclectic approach, matching treatment to client needs and strengths. He strives to meet clients where they are at when they arrive in therapy. He offers a warm and empathic environment that enables clients to engage in the therapeutic process and push towards change. Dr. Teeple understands that contexts (familial, economic, and cultural) matter a great deal to clients and respects clients' various intersecting identities. He promotes curiosity and works to instill hope in clients so that they may move toward a life aligned with their values.
